Can you tell us more about your business?
Ink & Co. has been a long time coming. Ryan stays at home with our two children and has always wanted to have a "project" outside of his home responsibilities. We both like the vintage industrial look and have a passion for finding the perfect home décor. We knew nothing about screen pressing or sewing or burlap before we took the step of designing Ink & Co. but once we got the idea (while walking thru a West Elm store) we haven't slept since. We wanted to design product that was unique and one-of-a-kind for each customer.
What aspect of your business makes you proud?
First and foremost, it has taught us that we are capable to do anything we set out to do. Secondly, this is something that we do together. That was really important for us to find as a married couple. Ink & Co. has been the best thing (besides raising our family) that we have done together. It allows both of us to be creative, work hard, show passion and work together for a common goal.
Is your business involved in any charity work in the local community?
Ink & Co. donates 5% of its sales to the Pelotonia Organization. Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund life-saving cancer research. Pelotonia is a three-day experience that includes a weekend of cycling, entertainment and volunteerism. In its first seven rides, Pelotonia raised more than $106 million for cancer research. Pelotonia is able to direct 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. We are partnering with the rider, Amanda Williams, this year and will announce our partnership on June 1, 2016. Talk about OHIO PRIDE! Ryan's father passed away from colon cancer in 1993 leaving behind his family, a wife and 3 young children. Ryan has always had a strong desire to be active in preventative cancer research.
Why do you love Ohio?
It's our home. The place we are from and grew up in; it is where we met, we got married and we are currently raising our tribe. We love the Midwest culture and the vibe of the folks who live here. How can one not be in love with the changing of seasons, passion for a Friday night football game, the rolling farm fields, a fresh pumpkin pie on a fall day, the endless bike paths and metro-parks, or the beautiful evening skies. We aren't sure the list could ever end.
