 The Direction

Owner Name: Andrea Archibald

Year Started: 2016

The Direction sells state and city pride apparel for everyone from all directions. In 2012, Andrea opened the first Simply Vague store. Now it has 3 locations, 2 in Columbus at Polaris Fashion Place and The Mall at Tuttle Crossing and 1 in Cincinnati at Kenwood Towne Centre. The Simply Vague stores sell Ohio made items from hundreds of local makers. After the 2015 holiday season, Andrea began creating state pride apparel under the brand The Direction. She says, for years shoppers would ask if the Ohio themed items that Simply Vague carries are available online. Due to the nature of that business with everything being placed in the stores on consignment it is not possible to make the products available online. The Direction is more than just Ohio apparel, there are designs online at that represent all 50 states so that anyone from anywhere can purchase apparel that celebrates their state. We interviewed Andrea to learn more about The Direction!

What aspect of your business makes you proud?

I have been curating locally made products for 4 years and have really enjoyed working with so many incredible local makers but I've always had the desire to create. Next month the first storefront for The Direction will open in the new Tanger mall in Delaware Ohio. For the first time I am putting together a store to represent my own brand and vision and I am really proud of how it is all coming together.

Is your business involved in any charity work in the local community?

The Direction is not but I also host the largest local shopping event in Columbus Ohio called Made LOCAL Marketplace. Made LOCAL Marketplace is my opportunity to give back to the community as I donate a portion of the proceeds from each event to a different Ohio nonprofit organization.

Why do you love Ohio?

I love that the people in Ohio have so much pride for the state and love the amazing community of makers/small business owners. There is no better place to own a business, since I began my journey of entrepreneurship I have received nothing but support from the people of the buckeye state.
